Upward Bound Students Participate in
Violence Awareness Projects
MADISONVILLE, Ky.—As part of their summer academic enrichment program, Upward Bound students are participating in two violence awareness projects: “The Clothesline Project” and “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.”
For The Clothesline Project, students designed t-shirts with messages against violence. The purpose of the project is to bear witness to the survivors and victims of acts of violence against women. With a display of these t-shirts, students and UB staff hope to raise awareness of the extent of the problem of violence. The Clothesline Project started in 1990, with a display in Cape Cod, Mass.
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is a men’s march to end rape, sexual assault, and gender violence. The walk will take place at Parkway Plaza Mall on Friday, July 3. Men will walk a partial lap, wearing women’s shoes. Registration will begin at 1:30 p.m. near Godfather’s Pizza. The walk will be 2-4 p.m.
