Accelerated LPN to RN Program

Program Description

This program prepares the Licensed Practical Nurse as a graduate to provide and manage client care and become a member fo the discipline of nursing as an associate degree nurse. Associate degree nurses are prepared to function in various health care settings as providers of care, managers of care, and members within the discipline of nursing. They perform acts which require special knowledge in the psychological, biological, physical and social sciences in the application of nursing knowledge to client care situations. Classes meet on Friday evenings and Saturdays allowing currently employed students to continue to work while they go to school. The program also utilizes the Internet to facilitate active learning approaches to theoretical concepts.

Graduates of the program are eligible to write the NCLEX-RN licensing exam for licensure as a Registered Nurse. Madisonville Community College's Associate Degree Nursing Program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission: 61 Broadway-33rd Floor, New York City, NY 10006.

Employment Opportunities

Associate degree nurses as Registered Nurses work in a variety of settings: hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, hospice facilities, health departments, and industry. Graduates of the program are eligible to continue their education and complete a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing through completion programs in surrounding four-year universities.

The average starting salary is $32,000 for a staff nurse in the Madisonville area. The average wage for an experienced nurse in the United States is a low of $42,102 and a high of $48,182. The overall outlook for employment in nursing is excellent. Thousands of job openings are expected to occur due to the replacement of experienced nurses leaving the nursing field with retirement.

Classes Needed

Documentation of successful completion of a recognized Licensed Practical Nurse program; active, unrestricted licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse; and one year of employment as a Licensed Practical Nurse is required prior to enrolling in the first nursing course.
